The Dashing Haberdasher

Room 34

We found it interesting, and kind of random, that among the accounts of the original businesses that were once on the Stratton site, one of them was a “hat factory” or “milliner’s shop.” This intrigued us enough to make it the inspiration for one of our mansion theme rooms, however we had difficulty coming up with what the name should be. In researching fabrics and wallcoverings that looked like hat material, we came across a line from Ralph Lauren that did BOTH fabrics and wallcoverings called “Haberdashery.” We knew haberdasheries were once more common than now and they were primarily always men’s clothing stores. We fell in love with the blue pinstripe fabric with matching wallcovering from Ralph Lauren and because old haberdasheries also sold men’s hats we morphed the “hat factory” inspiration into what is now called “The Dashing Haberdasher.”

The idea here is to make you feel as if you are walking into a man’s navy blue pin strip suit – with coordinating fabrics and wallcoverings that also represent the dress shirt, tie, and ascot. And, of course, some top hats and bowler caps thrown in for good measure. I guess you could say this room is, well, manly… Features of this room on the second floor of the mansion include:
