The Town of Roxbury is unique in its location in the Catskills in that it is less than an hour away from the Catskills four main ski areas: Belleayre, Plattekill, Hunter, and Windham. Whether you’re a hardcore downhill skier, a partying snowboarder, an athletic cross country novice, or a speed-demon snowtuber, The Roxbury’s two properties have a ski resort close by that can accommodate your taste. We’ve provided some information below on each ski resort.

Plattekill
We listed this resort first because The Roxbury is just a few miles down the road from Plattekill mountain. Die hard skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts champion Plattekill for its long and challenging runs and attention to skiers’ needs. The Roxbury is only about seven minutes from the base of the mountain, so if you want to just ski all day then come home and crash, then this is the place to go. Our favorite thing to do at Plattekill is snowtubing. You and the kids (or if you’re just a big kid) can fly down the mountain on one of the cool tubes.

Belleayre
Over the past few years, Belleayre Mountain has rapidly become one of New York’s premiere ski-resorts. It’s the highest skiable peek (3429 ft) and boasts the longest skiable trail in the Catskills AND it’s only fifteen minutes from The Roxbury. Named the “best place to learn to ride and ski in the East” by Skiing Magazine, its ski school and “kidscamp” consistently crank out experienced enthusiasts from young or young-at-heart novices. Plan your vacation for a whole week so that you can get to know every one of Belleayre’s 38 trails. Featuring the only gondola lift in the Catskills, we enjoy it the most in summer!

Windham
Only about 30-40 minutes away from The Roxbury, Windham Mountain has been in operation for over 25 years as a premiere ski and snowboard resort. Windham Mountain boasts a 1,600-foot vertical drop from a 3,100-foot summit with 39 trails nestled among the trees and peaks. And, seven lifts can transport 12,600 guests an hour to reach two separate peaks where they then disappear on 242 acres of skiable terrain. And if you’re a die hard snow-tuber and need more action than the tubing at Plattekill Mountain on Saturday nights, then go tubing at Windham Mountain on Friday nights, all day Saturday night, and Sunday! Or all week during holiday periods!

Hunter
What else can we say? Hunter Mountain has been a popular place for New Yorkers to ski for years. And it’s only about a half an hour from the Roxbury! Hunter’s the place to go if you have just as much fun whooping it up at the Lodge Bar as you do on the slopes.
